Environment
Climate change has become an issue of major importance in the media and across the political spectrum.
- - Do the churches - or individual Christians - have a particular role to play in regard to climate change and the environment?
- - Is climate change due to our lack of proper care for God's created world?
- - As climate change is having a disproportionate effect on many of the poorest parts of the world, to what extent is this a justice issue?
These and other similar questions have been challenging churches for many years now, both to reflect on environmental issues from a theological point of view and to develop programmes of practical action.
Resources
In the run-up to the United Nations COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, at the end of 2021, over 2,200 churches and church groups throughout Britain and Ireland participated in the Climate Sunday Initiative. Resources were produced to help create a Climate Sunday service and these are still available on the Climate Sunday website (most available in English and Welsh).
Since 2008 CTBI has also compiled a programme of resources to encourage and assist churches to observe Creation Time and these are available to download:
