An update on the refugee situation in Europe was provided at the Have No Fear conference held in the Netherlands 14-16 June 2016, organised by the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME), Conference of European Churches (CEC), World Council of Churches (WCC) and Protestantse Kerk.
Opening the conference, Archbishop Emeritus Dr Anders Wejryd (WCC President for Europe) asked ‘If we the churches do not uphold the ideals of an international Christian heritage what will happen to our societies?’
Doris Peschke, General Secretary of CCME, questioned whether Europe truly had a ‘refugee crisis’, with 95% of refugees hosted in Middle East and African countries.
Doris said that of the pledge by the EU Council in July 2015 to relocate 33,000 refugees only around 2,000 have currently been relocated.
You can listen to the talks from Dr Anders Wejryd and Doris Peschke at the Have No Fear conference on the Focus on Refugees website.
