September 12, 2016 By Web Editor

Faith leaders' open letter to UK Prime MinisterUK faith leaders have signed an open letter to Prime Minister Theresa May calling on the UK Government to ‘urgently revise its policy towards refugees’.

‘In the face of the unfolding human catastrophe, there are immediate and viable steps that the Government can take to offer sanctuary to more refugees. We call on you to create safe, legal routes of travel, for example by adopting fair and humane family reunion policies for refugees’, says the letter.

The letter has been signed by a total of 224 leaders including Lord Dr Rowan Williams, Former Archbishop of Canterbury; the Most Rev’d David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church; the Most Rev’d Dr Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales; His Eminence Gregorios, Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain (Greek Orthodox); His Grace Bishop Angaelos, General Bishop, Coptic Orthodox Church; Rt Rev’d Russell Barr, Moderator of the General Assembly, the Church of Scotland; Rev’d Dr Roger Walton, President of the Methodist Conference; Rev’d Kevin Watson, Moderator of the General Assembly, United Reformed Church (URC);  Paul Parker, Recording Clerk for Quakers in Britain; and Commissioner Clive Adams, Territorial Commander, The Salvation Army, UK and Republic of Ireland.

It has also been signed by leaders of Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Zoroastrian faiths.
