The Amity Foundation China and Friends of the Church in China UK are looking for fluent English speakers to join the Summer English Programme and offer a month of service in China. English-speaking volunteers will work with rural Chinese teachers of English to develop their listening and speaking skills.
Teaching experience—especially English teaching experience—is always helpful, but it is not necessary. What the Chinese teachers of English need most is practice in listening and speaking. Some teaching materials are provided, and teams can plan lessons and communicative activities together.
‘Something remarkable happens when people from different cultures start talking to one another. Language becomes an exchange of ideas rather than a text to be memorised.
