Quakers in Britain has published The Truth about Trident: Disarming the Nuclear Argument. The book has been written by Timmon Wallis, who works for Quaker Peace and Social Witness and Christian CND, and critically explores the arguments for retaining the Trident nuclear missile system.
‘Quakers in Britain say that a gospel of love cannot be defended by the threatened annihilation of millions of innocent people. It can never be right to use these ghastly weapons at any time, whether first, or as unthinkable retaliation after we ourselves are doomed. This book is timely, ahead of the hugely controversial vote in parliament this year’, commented Helen Drewery, General Secretary of Quaker Peace and Social Witness.
Some workshop-based training days are being run to coincide with the book launch. ‘Sowing the Seeds of Peace: Telling the Truth about Trident’ workshops have been organised by Christian CND, Quaker Peace and Social Witness, Fellowship of Reconciliation, and Pax Christi.
