Holy Scripture is a gift shared by all Christians but there are many differences of approach to the Bible in our worship, theology and personal devotion. In the Roman Catholic Year of the Word, three distinguished speakers reflected on approaches to Scripture in their own tradition and considered together the ways in which we can deepen our understanding of scripture by listening to those from different backgrounds.

Dr Andrew Davies, Reader in the Public Understanding of Religion at the University of Birmingham and Director, Edward Cadbury Centre for the Public Understanding of Religion (School of Philosophy, Theology & Religion), was previously Vice Principal of the Assemblies of God Bible College at Mattersey Hall, Nottinghamshire.
Fr Henry Wansborough is an English biblical scholar, Roman Catholic priest, and monk of Ampleforth Abbey where he has taught for many years. From 1990 to 2004, he served as Master of St Benet’s Hall, Oxford, where he was also Chair of the University Faculty of Theology. He has translated the Bible twice, as General Editor of the New Jerusalem Bible (1985) and of the Revised New Jerusalem Bible (2020). He has served on several papal commissions, including the Pontifical Biblical Commission, and on the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission.
Janet Scott was Head of Religious Studies and Director of Studies in Religious Studies and Education at Homerton College, Cambridge. She is a member of the Society of Friends and has held many ecumenical positions including being a Trustee of Churches Together in England.
