Veneration of saints and celebrity culture: one URC perspective – Rev Dr Sarah Hall (Docx, 22k)
About
While the Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican churches have a myriad of different understandings of the cult of the saints, the traditions flowing into the United Reformed Church would seem at first sight to disregard a belief in the saints as an unnecessary accretion. Yet parts of the URC tradition hold up certain individuals from whom we can learn how to follow Christ. This day conference explored some of what the churches believe about saints today and what we can learn and receive from each other. This dialogue is placed in the context of the growing significance of celebrity in our culture.
