Pope Francis has launched Share the Journey, a campaign in support of refugees and migrants, backed by more than 200 Catholic organisations including CAFOD and Caritas Social Action in England and Wales.

‘Hope is the desire to share the journey of life, as the Caritas campaign that we inaugurate today reminds us. Brothers and sisters, do not be afraid to share the journey! Do not be afraid to share hope!’ said Pope Francis addressing his weekly audience in St Peter’s Square on 27 September 2017.

CAFOD UK is asking supporters to sign a petition to the Prime Minister.

For more on this story see Focus on Refugees.

Two Bishops have also written to The Telegraph in support of the campaign – the Bishop of Croydon for the Church of England, the Rt Rev Jonathon Clark (Chairman of the Churches’ Refugee Network), and the Catholic Bishop of Salford (Chairman of CAFOD), the Rt Rev John Arnold:

‘Governments will meet in less than a year to agree two new UN compacts on refugees and migrants. We urge our Government to play a leading role in developing agreements that keep families together, help communities hosting those forced to flee, and tackle the reasons people migrate. A global crisis requires a global response.’

Church response to the refugee crisis
