Messages for Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr

June 27, 2017 By Web Editor

Christian leaders and organisations have released messages for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr.

The message from the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue is titled Christians and Muslims: Caring for our Common Home with a theme closely related to Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter Laudato Si’.

The full message was posted on the Catholic Church in England and Wales website which also included bidding prayers for marking non-Christian festivals and a four-part podcast called Understanding Islam recorded by Fr Damian Howard, now Superior of the Jesuit’s GB province.

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) has offered greetings to the worldwide Muslim community highlighting unity, justice and peace.

‘The WCC will continue to challenge a spirit of xenophobia that seems to be growing’, said Tveit who also emphasised the importance of young people in ‘carving a new path of justice and peace’.

You can read the message on the WCC website.

Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury at the Church of England, shared his message on social media:

After the challenges of this Ramadan, I pray for a blessed and peaceful Eid for the Muslim community. #EidMubarak pic.twitter.com/eTbcPBAmrL
