A ‘humanitarian corridor’ for refugees to travel safely between Lebanon and France will be opened thanks to ecumenical cooperation between Protestant and Catholic organisations in France.
The route will be created with the agreement of the French government which has consented to offer 500 humanitarian visas to vulnerable Syrian citizens in Lebanon over the next 18 months. Lebanon currently hosts over 1 million refugees.
A similar project, which has already been piloted for a year, has brought approximately 700 Syrian refugees safely and legally from Lebanon to Italy.
