Delegates on a fact-finding trip to Italian refugee projects, organised by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI), have returned with harrowing stories of serial trafficking, kidnapping and abuse being the norm for refugees en route to the Libyan coast.
‘Having visited Lampedusa and heard people’s stories, I’m shocked by the horror of what they have experienced on their journeys over. I’m left feeling I must do more. We must do more’, commented Sam Donaldson, a Quaker from Hull who was one of the seven young men from churches across Britain and Ireland who visited refugee projects with Mediterranean Hope in Italy last week.
The delegation also witnessed an inspirational spirit of welcome and compassion from those helping the refugees from the charity Mediterranean Hope.
