Over 20 faith leaders fasted for the climate at the UN Climate Change summit in Paris yesterday, sitting down for a lunch with knives and forks but no food. The publicity stunt was to demonstrate their hunger for climate justice.
Those taking part included the Most Rev Dr Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town; Archbishop Antje Jackelén, Primate of the Church of Sweden; Rev Dr Martin Junge, general secretary of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF); the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Rev Nick Holtam; Yeb Saño, the former Philippines’ chief climate negotiator; and Imam Ibrahim Saidy of Norway.
Together with 10,000 people worldwide, they were part of a global fast which takes place on the first of every month.
