Moving Mountains, the largest-ever ecumenical regional mission to Cumbria, has demonstrated that denominations are more powerful together than they are apart, said Alan Yates joint moderator of the United Reformed Church (URC). The campaign took place from 8-11 March 2018 and involved Anglicans, Methodists, Salvation Army and the URC in 33 teams, reaching an estimated 25,000 people who attended more than 500 events across the county.
Other Church leaders who took part included Loraine Mellor (President of Methodist Conference), Jill Baker (VP of the Methodist Conference), Archbishop Sentamu and James Newcome (Bishop of Carlisle).
Activities were aimed at communicating the key message: ‘God loves you more than you will ever know’ and included visits to schools, pub quizzes, music, comedy, treasure hunts, arts and crafts, film nights, walking trips, sporting events, exhibitions and dementia-friendly events and services.
