26 April 2023, 2–4pm, via Zoom.
Join us to hear Revd Dr Inderjit Bhogal talk about the importance of offering hospitality and sanctuary to those fleeing danger and persecution.
This meeting takes place against a backdrop of rising hostility and antipathy towards those seeking asylum on these shores. With that being the case, how should churches and places of worship respond to this crisis?
We will also be joined by Nic Schlagman and Claire Fletcher to talk about the work they do among LGBTQ asylum seekers at their synagogue.
About the speakers
- Dr Bhogal leads the Church of Sanctuary movement, which encourages churches, cathedrals and places of worship to be more welcoming spaces for those in need of hospitality.
- Nic Schlagman is the Head of Social Action and Interfaith at West London Synagogue. In this capacity he supports the community to deliver programming to support local vulnerable communities. They have run a Drop-in supporting 250 asylum seeker families each month since 2011 and a newer project for LGBT+ asylum seekers since 2021. West London Synagogue is keen to work with other faith communities to collaborate on programming and support smaller communities to set up their own projects.
