Speaking truth to power is the theme for this year’s Church Action on Poverty Sunday.
Church Action on Poverty is looking for at least 200 churches across the UK to hold a simple soup lunch or take a collection on Church Action on Poverty Sunday to raise funds to help many more people to speak truth to power, and loosen the grip of poverty in their communities.
You can sign up on the Church Action on Poverty website and you will be posted a pack of worship and fundraising materials, and provided with a link so that you can also download a digital version of the pack.
On the website you’ll also find fundraising resources such as place mats for a soup lunch, and prayers cards and donation envelopes.
Challenge to UK churches
Church Action on Poverty is also asking UK churches, locally and nationally, to make a fresh commitment to speak truth to power about poverty and to ensure that the Church is always on the side of people who have been swept to the margins.
It invites all Church leaders to add their names to this call alongside Church Action on Poverty, as a collective act of witness to send a clear message to all the UK’s Christian denominations.
