While it is usually refugees travelling into and through Europe that grab media attention, it is easy to overlook the fact that many people are displaced within their own countries.
These issues are highlighted in Christian Aid Ireland’s summer magazine which features the charity’s support for displaced Iraqis. Christian Aid says that 10 million Iraqis, almost a third of the total population, are in need of humanitarian aid with the Kurdish region of Iraq home to more than a million displaced Iraqis and a quarter of a million refugees from the conflict in Syria.
