Christians and churches are invited to join Churches Together in England (CTE) on Thursday 25 May 2023 to light a candle, pray for racial justice and commit to taking action.
The #CandleOfJustice theme this year is inspired by the tragic, racially-aggravated, killing of Dea-John Reid who then sadly experienced a miscarriage of justice.
This is the third year that CTE has invited Christians to join together in prayer on the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder.
#CandleOfJustice will be a moment to light a candle, pray for racial justice and commit to taking personal and institutional action to tackle racial injustice in our society and our churches.
CTE has published a prayer on its website and will also be hosting online prayers at 1pm on 25 May 2023.

Stephen Lawrence Legacy Conversations
This year marked the 30th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence’s murder in Eltham, south-east London, which remains a watershed moment for race equality on these shores.
Christian Aid and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) brought together 14 leading Christian thinkers and theologians to discuss the legacy of Stephen Lawrence’s racist killing, and the current state of race relations in Church and society in Britain and Ireland.
