Ukraine is facing yet another humanitarian emergency with the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam.
Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and Christian Aid’s local partners say there is now a risk of disease from water contaminated by dead animals and sewage.
Teams in Ukraine have been working around the clock, since the dam was blown up on June 6 2023, to ensure fresh water supplies reach survivors.
According to the UN, around 80 towns and villages have been flooded with 17,000 people affected. It is feared this could rise to 40,000.
Christian Aid says it is grateful to all those who have supported the Ukraine Appeal so far and is hoping more help can be given following this latest emergency.
CAFOD also says its local partner, DePaul Ukraine, is already responding by providing shelter, food, water and medical assistance to those most in need. CAFOD also has an ongoing Ukraine appeal.
