Homeless Sunday – 7 Oct 2018

September 13, 2018 By Web Editor

Homeless Sunday 2018Housing Justice and Scottish Churches Housing Action have moved Homeless Sunday to October with the next event taking place on 7 October 2018.

The change in date reflects feedback from Church leaders and congregations and the growing number of churches involved in hosting Church and community night shelter projects. Most shelter projects tend to open towards the end of October and Housing Justice says the new date offers a chance to mark the opening of the shelter season in prayer.

It’s hoped it will be the biggest Homeless Sunday ever and for Christians across the UK ‘to be aware of the growing homelessness crises in Britain, to increase the numbers active in addressing it and to send a message to policy makers that Christians are adamant that in the fifth richest economy in world, no one should be without a home that truly meets their needs’.

It is a chance for churches and Christian groups to join together to pray, reflect and plan practical action on homelessness, as well as provide ‘a united Christian voice to offer solidarity and be a prophetic voice for change’.

Resources are available to help plan a sermon, homily, bible study or event, including a theological reflection and fact sheets on homelessness for England, Wales and Scotland.

You can also request a speaker for your Homeless Sunday service (although speakers are limited and dealt with on a first come first served basis).

Housing Justice is also requesting to be sent written reflections on what home means to you, or a video or picture with a short message on the same theme.
