Leaders from six UK churches are calling for the Syrian and Russian Governments, and other forces, to stop their bombardment of Aleppo, Syria. The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) has also issued a briefing Syria and our failure to protect civilians.
The briefing and statement come two weeks after the collapse of the ceasefire since which 376 people have been killed (one third children) and 1,266 wounded, according to the United Nations. There have also been 23 recorded attacks on Aleppo’s eight hospitals since the end of July, said Medicines Sans Frontieres.
The Aleppo statement has been signed by the leaders of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Church in Wales, the Church of Scotland, Quakers in Britain, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church (URC). It is available on the Baptist, Methodist and Church of Scotland websites.
